Pakenham United FC has celebrated the wonderful achievement of one of its most loyal servants on Saturday with Alex Herrera playing his 100th game for the club against Bunyip Strikers.

Herrera, who celebrated his milestone achievement with a 3-1 reserves victory over the Strikers, is one of the original players from the club’s first-ever season all the way back in 2012.

Herrera has knocked back many offers to play at a higher level and has been a familiar face at the club since the merger between the Pakenham Soccer Club and its junior affiliate Cardinia United.

Herrera is a popular figure around the football scene, with many of his former teammates – now playing for Bunyip – more than happy to form a guard of honour before the game.

Pakenham United FC president Chris Gomez presented Herrera and his family with his original number-eight jersey from the inaugural 2012 championship season, as well as a framed jersey that Herrera plans to hang in his cinema room.

Congratulations Alex Herrera on a wonderful and loyal career at Pakenham, and one that is still counting.
