Bayne braves the elements

DROUIN GOLF

It was a challenging day at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday with 68 players teeing it up in tough and windy conditions.

Glenn Bayne started the day on fire with 22 points on the front nine and hung on over the back nine to finish with the best score for the day, winning B Grade with 37 points.

Paul Timewell was the only other player to play to their handicap or better, winning A Grade with 36 points.

Down the lines went to Peter Downward, John Roach and Darren Wolfenbuttel 35, and to Greg Street, Ben Jeffrey and Glen Ward with 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Lee Yuill and 10th Shaun Doak.

The mid-week competition on Wednesday was Stableford with a good field of 81 players.

Top score for the day was Graham Rawson, who carded seven pars and one birdie to finish up winning B Grade with a score of 41 points.

C Grade went to Laurie Snowball with 39 points and A Grade was a close contest with Kevin Johnson winning on a count back with 37 points.

Down the lines went to John Gidley 39, Robert Ramage, Liam Visser and Reg Dixon 37, Ian Hemphill and Gilbert Davis 36, and Noel Brereton and Joe Kirby 35.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Stephen Clark, 8th John Gidley, 10th Brain Maunder and 14th Liam Visser.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin ladies played a 4BBB Stableford event which was kindly sponsored by Drouin’s popular club professional Anthony Bambridge.

The winners of the day were Mildred Lyon (40) and Robyn Carville (42) with 44 points.

Runners up were Sharon Rippon (17) and Marg Purcell (19) with 42 points on a countback.

Down the line balls went to Monica Gidley and Jeannette Phillips also on 42 and Shirley Roberts and Judy Dixon on 41 points.

Nearest the pins were: 5th Judy Bibby, 8th Sharon Rippon, 10th Catriona Ferguson and 14th Helen Moon.

Congratulations to our club team: Vanessa Campbell, Marg Purcell and Shirley Roberts who were runners-up in the Deep Creek Bowl event held on Thursday 21 April.

Drouin’s ladies Sunday Pennant team broke the drought and scored a round-three win on Sunday over Trafalgar at Warragul, a fantastic effort.

Saturday’s Ladies played a Stableford event and the winner was Jeannette Phillips (35) with 24 points on a countback.

Today is the May Monthly medal stroke event, sponsored by Drouin Home Timber and Hardware.

Next week is the Drouin Ladies Foursomes Championships over 18 and 27 holes.

Tuesday 17 May sees the start of the Eileen Smith 4BBB event held over two consecutive weeks.

This week’s competitions are Stableford on Wednesday and Stroke on Saturday for May’s Monthly Medal.
