A very foggy icy-cold start to Saturday soon cleared to be a lovely day with plenty of winter sunshine providing a great day for golfers to battle it out for the July Monthly Medal.

The big prize on offer attracted a good size field of 105 players.

Peter Kelly was the winner with a super round of nett 63, playing off his mark of 23, which was the three shots clear of the next-best score shot by Andrew Rose.

Darren Mouser had the best A Grade scratch round with a score of 78 whilst the aforementioned Rose won the B Grade scratch event with a score of 80.

Ken Pettiford won the C Grade event with a score of 88 and Kelly’s round of 86 proved good enough for the D Grade win.

A final score of net 73 was required to get a ball down the line.

Thursday was a great day weather wise and this resulted in the biggest field for winter in quite some years with a total of 67 registering for the days play.

Ian Nicholson is a golfer on the move with some great recent form, this time winning the C Grade event with the day’s best round of 40 points, some six points clear of the next best score from Nigel Goldsworthy whom scored 34 points.

Nicholson backed this up on Saturday with yet another good round of nett 68 to finish runner up for the C Grade event. Frank Hyett, a very regular Thursday player, had the day’s best round for A Grade with a better than handicap round of 37 points to defeat Cameron Reid by one point.

Charlie Hardy, yet another every Thursday player, was victorious for B Grade with a handicap score of 36 points defeating Russell Kerr by one point in the process. Plenty of birdies were scored on the par threes with a total of 13 accounted for. A final round of 33 points was needed to get a ball down the line.

Next Saturday is the second stroke round of the Cox Cup.
