Those tempted to taste what West Gippsland has to offer will have the chance to do so next weekend at a brand new event.

The inaugural West Gippsland Railtowns Food and Wine Festival will help put Garfield on the map, offering a relaxed day of eating and drinking from gourmet local producers.

To be held Sunday 5 March on three acres of land behind the main drag of Garfield, the event will allow visitors to taste the hidden gems – the area’s local producers – of West Gippsland and the Gippsland region.

“The festival is a chance to showcase these railway townships,” organiser Erin Polson said.

“It will be a relaxed afternoon – bring your friends and family.”

Only an hour’s drive from Melbourne CBD, travel by V/Line towards Gippsland or drive east towards the rolling hills of Gippsland on the M1. If you want to experience country hospitality and charm, get friends and family together for a day out.

The event is a collaboration led by the Garfield Community Association, with support from Cardinia Shire Council and West Gippsland Progress Association.

Eight wineries will be among the highlighted local producers on the day, offering brews, cider, gin, cocktails as well as non-alcoholic drinks.

Food trucks, lawn games for the kids and live entertainment will also feature on the day.

The West Gippsland Food and Wine Festival will be on Sunday 5 March, from 11am to 5pm in Garfield.

Festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own camp chairs and picnic rugs.

There is ample parking off Beswick Street (Cowie’s Paddock), with Bunyip and Garfield Rotary Club assisting with directing traffic on the day. They kindly ask for a gold coin donation. There is also additional car parking at the Garfield Recreation Reserve.
