PARKING during construction of Pakenham’s highly anticipated $80 million retail hub will be a hot topic at next Wednesday’s Pakenham Business Group meeting.
Cardinia Shire Council chief executive Garry McQuillan will give the business community an update on the project.
PBG president Michael Porter said traders were concerned about the provision of parking during construction of the development and looked forward to Mr McQuillan’s presentation.
Cardinia Shire councillors and council officers this week met with a team of Woolworths’ consultants.
Cr Collin Ross told the Gazette that a motion outlining the development plans would be put up at next Monday night’s town planning meeting.
Cr Ross said it was expected that the current library site would be levelled by Christmas to make way for the retail development, and that its construction would take about 18 months.
He said that about 288 car parks would be fenced off during the construction period, but the council was looking to utilise other sites in the town’s heartland for interim car parking.
Other guest speakers at the PBG meeting (August 5) include Tom Quilty Gold Cup organiser Lissy Verity and a council by laws officer.
Ms Verity will speak about the economic benefits of the Tom Quilty Gold Cup, the world’s biggest endurance ride to be held at Tonimbuk this September.
A representative from the shire by-laws division will discuss the council’s new footpath trading code.
