Weather dictates rates

WITH weather conditions starting to dictate stocking rates, vendors chose to off load any extra head they needed to manage feed.
Eight hundred and sixteen head were yarded for the Wednesday Fat Cattle Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, with prices remaining relatively steady on the previous week.
One hundred and nineteen bullocks made up 15 per cent of the yard and held on to all but 1.5 cents of last week’s average. Prices ranged from 114.6 to 151.6.
One hundred and four heifers lost some ground easing 12 cents to 128.1, although light condition heifers suffered most dragging the rest back, heavy heifers made from 94.6 to 156.6 and light 51.6 to 123.6.
One hundred and fifty eight steers stood firm and maintained last Wednesday’s average with prices starting at 95.2 and climbing to 178.6.
