A TYNONG North farm and restaurant is playing host to two great foodie events this month.
Peppermint Ridge Farm is taking part in Good Food Month and putting native-food into the main arena.
Julie Weatherhead, the cook at Peppermint Ridge Farm, said she was excited to ‘invent’ some dishes that would surprise people.
“I love to invent dishes to showcase the flavour,” she said.
“People don’t know a lot about native foods and I want to show them they can grow their own.
“I find what is best on the farm at the moment and invent dishes from that.”
On 17 November visitors can join a guided tour of the farm’s kitchen and native-food gardens as part of Taste, Learn, See and Lunch.
People can collect fresh ingredients for lunch and sit down to a shared platter showcasing a range of savoury and sweet dishes, served with award-winning local wines.
“The idea is to show people that we grow the food right where we cook it, we will show people the bush food garden,” she said.
“We are trying to fit the motto of Taste, Learn and See – people can taste something they haven’t before, learn something they didn’t know and the plants are just beautiful to look at.”
On 24 November the farm will be overtaken for a food experience with a difference.
As part of Native Creative Regional Slow Lunch, people will be able to enjoy a three-course, native food flavoured lunch, much of it grown just metres from the table
“The food is really different, people just go ‘wow’,” Ms Weatherhead said.
“All the produce is local, local meats and cheese, local wines – we buy everything we can’t grow ourselves from local producers.”
The Taste, Learn, See and Lunch starts at 11am on Sunday 17 November and costs $40.
The Native Creative Regional Slow Lunch at Peppermint Ridge Farm starts at noon on Sunday 24 November and costs $60.
Bookings are essential for both events and can be made by calling 5942 8580.
