One for the kids

Dancing up a storm at the new Cockatoo Disco.

KIDS are dancing up a storm at the Cockatoo Discos being held at the Community Hall in Pakenham Road.
The disco has been running for four months – organised by local mum Kathy Brown and a group of local children.
Kathy, lead singer of classic rock and blues band “Rustbucket” came up with the event after performing at the Community Band night.
“I could really see the need for more entertainment for local children,” she said.
From there the Cockatoo Disco was born and has been growing steadily over the past four months.
The motto for the disco is ‘for the kids by the kids’ which means, the children, host and run the disco, there are snacks and drinks for sale, and games and prizes, to be won.
The children also help with the ideas for the events, including all creative content, poster making and signs.
“We encourage the children to get up, and sing, and try a bit of karaoke,” Kathy said.
“At the Australia Day version of the disco some of the girls, taught a few of the children, how to do the Nutbush,” she laughed.
The next disco will be held at Easter, and will include an Easter Egg Hunt, at Alma Treloar Reserve.
