RECORD crowds flooded through the gates, and some even jumped the fence, to the annual Berwick Show at Akoonah Park last weekend.
While organisers were slightly disappointed with the small number that wandered the grounds on Saturday, there were shoulder to shoulder crowds on Sunday which president Tom Gibson said made up for Saturday’s shortage.
Mr Gibson said the show’s volunteers put Saturday’s smaller numbers down to the weather but were glad to see the carnival area full on Saturday night, with many families also surrounding the main arena for the famous fireworks.
“After 7pm the carnival area was packed,” he said.
Sunday was another story altogether and parents had to hold on to their kids to avoid losing them in the big crowds.
Mr Gibson said the response from visitors to the show had been great.
“Everyone I spoke to was very happy,” he said.
“There was not one grumpy or dissatisfied person.
“The president said it was pleasing to see more people get involved in all of the events and activities this year.
“Entries were up on just about every event this year,” he said.
“We had so many people come through – it was packed deep with people.”
As expected the showdown in the woodchop between Victoria and Tasmania was a hit, as was the fly ball, which was a first for the Berwick Show.
Mr Gibson said he enjoyed seeing how much fun people were having.
“It was great to see so many people enjoying it and trying something different,” he said.
“There was something there for every age and lifestyle.”
