THE judges of the Yakkerboo Art Show will have a hard task ahead of them this Friday when they judge the talent of various local artists.
Judging takes place on Friday and the winners are announced at the opening night.
The art show is held from 30 May to 1 June at the Pakenham Hall, and with 23 prizes allocated and a prize pool of more than $9000, the judges are going to be busy.
One of the judges is Geoff Sargent from Nar Nar Goon who is a realist artist working in colour pencil and fine paper. He has studied architecture and interior design and is responsible for many buildings in Melbourne including Scienceworks and the National Herbarium extensions at the Royal Botanic Gardens. Locally Geoff has redesigned the renovations at Living Learning Pakenham.
Since 1991 he has worked as a professional artist and over the last 15 years he has received over 20 awards for his work. He has generously donated this year’s art piece for the raffle. Tickets are available during the art show.
Laurie Collins is also a judge this year and is a junk and metal sculpture artist. His sculpture garden in Jindivick has become a local tourist attraction.
Laurie began his career as a civil engineer and has undertaken an architecture course. Working as a teacher in Mortlake and Drouin Secondary College, he did a welding course at Warragul TAFE and uses his time as a retiree to make sculptures. He has sold work all over Victoria and held exhibitions in Gippsland, Melbourne, Thailand and Canada.
