The Wedding Singer
Cardinia Cultural Centre
Until 5 September
THE Wedding Singer, the latest musical comedy performed by the talented cast of the Cardinia Performing Arts Company (CPAC), opened last Saturday night.
You’ve seen the movie.
Set in 1985 and Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party, until his own fiance leaves him at the altar.
Robbie’s reaction is to make every wedding as disastrous as his own.
Enter Julia; a winsome waitress who wins his affection. About to be married to a Wall Street shark, Julia can become the girl of his dreams if he pulls of a performance of the decade.
CPAC director Lee Geraghty coaxes outstanding performances from her cast, while choreographer Robert Mulholland inspires the cast to move to a high level.
Former front man of ’80s cover band Superfreak, David Ray really gets into the skin of his character Robbie Hart.
Hayley Fyfeild plays Julia and wows the audience with her flawless voice while lending Robbie a shoulder to cry on.
The supporting cast headed by Nicola Bull as Holly, Lucas Neale as Sammy and an outrageous Shaun Harvey as George certainly light the stage.
Nick Gribic had the unenviable task of making his character Glen Guglia despised by the audience … he pulled it off.
The Wedding Singer has cool music and its talented cast made each scene a joy to watch.
Highlights include Robbie Hart’s bedroom acoustic rendition of Somebody Kill Me and George and Rosie’s (played by Hazel Green) comedic Move That Thang.
The show is playing now at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
