Get ready to rock

DVD
30 Rock
Starring Tina Fey, Aec Baldwin, Scott Adsit
WHY 30 Rock never took off in Australia is a case of chicken or egg.
Was it because audiences didn’t embrace the show that it was quickly send to the 10.30pm slot or was it the graveyard programming that left it without an audience.
Whatever the reason, it’s a shame that this smartly written and very funny program never cut it in prime time.
Surprisingly created by the team that has been churning out the long running but lamentable Saturday Night Live, this sitcom is as sharp as Alec Baldwin’s haircut and as crazy as his late night voice mail messages.
Revolving around the antics of the cast and crew of a Saturday Night Live-style comedy show, 30 Rock revolves around Tina Fey’s nerdy liberal Liz Lemon and her relationship with her hard core corporate conservative boss Jack Donaghy, played by Baldwin.
The by-play and on-going relationship between the odd couple is the axis of the show, around which a galaxy of peripheral characters orbit.
Having watched a few shows from mid-way through the third series, the sit-com seemed amusing but confusing.
But restarting from series one filled in the gaps of information that are required to enjoy the running jokes.
If you are wondering why free-to-air sitcoms don’t make you laugh, it’s because The Big Bang Theory is written by and for 13-year-old boys.
For comedy that stimulates both the belly and the brain, 30 Rock might be the place to visit.
