Let’s be (a bit more) funny

Let’s Be Cops (MA)
Starring: Damon Wayans, Jake Johnson

ASSUMING Hollywood aims most of its product at the mentality of a 12-year-old boy, they’ve really hit the mark with this one.
My 12-year-old son gave it a 9.5 out of 10 – me, not so much.
Many less hardy souls would be scared off by the presence of C Grade comic Damon Wayans, let alone his even lesser-known co-star Jake Johnson.
The pair take on the role of fake cops in a send-up of those formulaic, one black one white Hollywood cop buddy comedies – think Lethal Weapon and the like.
After mistakenly wearing cop uniforms to a masquerade party, the duo find themselves getting a taste for the cop life … and loving it.
Add a $2000 ex-cop car purchased off ebay, and the boys are ready to roll.
It’s not hot, it’s not cold, but it’s not just right either … it’s just kind of in the middle.
Poor old Andy Garcia, unseen for so long, fronts up as one of the baddies-in-chief.
You know where this is going … the fake cops have to show real courage, and we’ll all learn a little something before we’re done.
In summary, Let’s Be Cops is a good idea that just isn’t quite as funny as it should be.
But if Interstellar has fried your brain and you need some less challenging fodder, then this might be the one for you.
