It’s not easy being the boss

A scene from The Boss.

The Boss (MA)
Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage, Kathy Bates

MELISSA McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Tammy) plays the titular role in her latest movie, The Boss.
In this case the movie is more Tammy than Bridesmaids or the brilliant Spy (both directed by the talented Paul Fieg, who isn’t involved this time) with the directing role going to McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone (who also helmed Tammy).
This time McCarthy stars as a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading.
When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.
Game of Thrones darling Peter Dinklage plays her nemesis and former boyfriend Renault who is responsible for her getting her arrested while Kristen Bell plays her assistant Claire, who ends up taking her boss in when she is down on her luck.
Add in a group of girl scouts and a chance to make money, a bit of rivalry with another group of girl scouts and you have The Boss.
McCarthy will next be seen in Ghostbusters (under the watchful eye of Fieg again) and in the new series of Gilmore Girl – after agreeing earlier this month to return to the role that first made her famous, Lorelei Gilmore’s business partner Sooki.
Kathy Bates also stars.
