THE Nut Lady is well-known among market-goers in Gembrook and surrounds.
Pam Jagger has been gracing the market with her presence every fourth Sunday of the month, for the last decade.
Originally growing organic vegetables, Pam decide to add longer shelf life products to her stall and now carries over 100 lines of nuts and seeds including power cubes made up of dry fruit and nuts, goji berries, sour cherries and chia seeds along with a huge variety of dried fruit, beans, grains and superfoods.
She carries produce for vegetarians, vegans and bakers or those who just want to live a healthier lifestyle.
Pam said the most requested nuts over the past 25 years had been consistent.
“They never change,” she said. “Three basic nuts: almonds, walnuts and cashews.”
Pam said she had noticed a change in the way people were cooking over the past 15 years.
“A lot of people are not cooking a traditional Australian meat and three veg but are more adventurous with the influence of TV cooking shows and cosmopolitan society,” she said.
“They’ll say they saw someone doing a recipe and want to try making it.”
Pam said she helped them by providing them with the correct quantity of product appropriate to their recipes.
Besides having a stall at the Gembrook Market, you can find Pam at Healesville, Upper Ferntree Gully, Warrandyte and Yarra Junction markets.
