It’s back to the future for Ted

Ted 2 (MA)
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi

TED 2 is an almost exact replay of the original Ted – but it’s no less funny and engaging for all that.
But be warned at the outset – not for the first time, Ted is a very dirty little bear indeed.
Plotwise, Ted is trying to use the legal system to prove he’s a person not an object, with an eye to fatherhood.
Mark Wahlberg again plays his long-suffering best friend (having moved on from his prior marriage to the adorable Mila Kunis).
This leaves Wahlberg free to take up a romance with Amanda Seyfried, who plays the young lawyer fighting Ted’s court battle for emancipation. Plenty of jokes are made, too, about Seyfried’s famous ‘Gollum’ looks.
Drug references abound, the language is filthy, and there’s a bit of cartoon violence as well.
But the riff of the cuddly little critter with the dirty mind isn’t done yet, and despite being a little over-long, Ted 2 does deliver the laugh out loud moments, as the young people say.
Giovanni Ribisi reprises his role as the creepy creep out to steal Ted for his very own – again.
While the plot is repetitive, the series of loosely-linked gags are well worth the price of admission.
Gross-out scenes abound, and Ted 3 must now be a certainty.
