Ant-Man (PG 13)

Ant-Man, being one of Marvel’s least anticipated films, was a surprisingly satisfactory superhero film. Although many fans would have preferred a Black Widow movie exploring the depths of Natasha Romanoff, Ant-Man will just have to fill the void until that wish comes true.
Based on the marvel comics, Ant-Man follows the story of witty ex-con Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as he is released from prison.
Scott tries to find honest work so his ex-wife will allow him to spend time with his young daughter. Unfortunately, even with a degree, Scott can’t seem to escape his criminal record and falls back into the crime scene.
He, along with three other unlawful friends plan to break into an old man’s vault in his home while he is away. There, Scott finds the suit.
When Scott is alone he tries on what he thinks is an odd looking motorcycle suit and shrinks. The old man, then makes contact.
When Scott tries to return the suit he is arrested. The old man, Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) helps Scott escape his cell and makes him a proposition. Scott then works alongside Hank and his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) to become Ant-Man.
Ant-Man’s main mission is to defeat Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) who becomes Yellowjacket in order to save the world.
The fight scene between Ant-man and Yellowjacket may seem small but in a strange way escalates into quite an epic battle.
Although it appears humorous with the use of simple props such as a toy train, as a viewer you can still sense there is a risk of failure and loss.
The fact that such props can be used just ads to the character of Ant-Man.
Rudd’s performance as Ant-Man was a home run considering many of his roles are either a hit or miss.
He seemed to fit the role well with his sharp sense of humour. Rudd’s projection also seemed to flow well with the supporting actors. It was easy to believe that this was in fact Ant-Man.
All in all, Ant-Man is a fun yet mediocre superhero film for all ages, especially if you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ant-Man is an unrealistic plot (the majority of superhero films are) but it is definitely worth a watch, even if it is just for the sneak peek at Captain America: Civil War.
