Put the bite on SBS for a week

Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston star in Jim Jarmusch's beautiful Only Lovers Left Alive.

Vampire Week,
SBS2 from 7 August

WHILE the focus may be on the Olympics next month, SBS is set to have some viewing to sink your teeth into as an alternative.
From Sunday, 7 August to Saturday, 13 August SBS2 features primetime vampire movies from around the globe.
The week-long program will launch off with Jim Jarmusch’s beautiful exploration of love when it really is forever – Only Lovers Left Alive on Sunday, 7 August from 8.30pm.
Set in the decaying city of Detroit and the beautifully alive Tangiers, Only Lovers is the story of lovers and vampires Adam (Tom Hiddleston) and Eve (Tilda Swinton).
Deeply depressed by the direction human beings are taking (“zombies” to the man who turned vampire in the time of Mary Shelley) Adam is reunited with his much older and more resilient lover.
However their reunion is derailed by the appearance of Eve’s wild and uncontrollable sister Ava (Australia’s Mia Wasikowska) and Adam’s human assistant Ian (a lovely under-stated performance by the late Anton Yelchin).
Throw in a brilliant performance by John Hurt as (Christopher “Kit” Marlow) and an eclectic and inventive soundtrack and you have a languid and beautiful portrait of true love – vampire style.
Also in the line-up are: A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014 USA) and Thirst (1979 Australia) – Monday; We Are The Night (2010 Germany) Tuesday; Night Watch (2004 Russia)
Wednesday and Day Watch (2006 Russia); Fright Night (1985 USA)
Friday; Byzantium (2012 UK) Saturday, 13 August at 8.30pm.
