New centre impresses

VISITORS to the 48th annual Farm World were impressed with the stunning new Lardner Park Exhibition Centre last weekend.
The official opening of the centre by Premier John Brumby also acted as the launch of the four days of Farm World, opened by former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath. Construction of the $5 million centre began in June last year, with the finishing touches put in place just in time for this year’s field days.
Lardner Park Events CEO Mark Cockerell said the new centre increased flexibility of the unique venue, housing an auditorium and demonstration stage, extensive exhibition space, a huge pre-function foyer and kitchen facilities capable of feeding up to 1000.
“It has been a significant commitment for us to fund this, with $1.35 million assistance from external sources that include $650,000 from the Federal Government, $500,000 from Regional Development Victoria and $200,000 from the Baw Baw Shire with the rest self funded,” Mr Cockerell said.
Lardner Park presently hosts events and expos including the Jindi Cheese Harvest of Gippsland, Craft Markets Australia, the Australian Jeep Owners Jamboree, the Baw Baw Garden Expo and Home Show, the Baw Baw Road Safe Challenge, the JobSkills Expo, the Vintage and Old Wares Expo, the State Youth Games and the Seventh Day Adventist annual convention.
Each year the centre will be used to promote Farm World’s theme, supporting a special display of relevant visitors.
This year’s theme was IT in Agriculture.
