PLASTERERS from across the district have responded to a call for help featured in a recent edition of the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette.
Work at the new Cardinia Combined Churches Caring (4Cs) headquarters, behind La Porchetta restaurant, came to a standstill after the charity could not find a plasterer to help complete the job.
The spacious new base will allow 4Cs to store more food and offer budget cooking classes in a custom-built kitchen.
But fundraising co-ordinator Jack Mitchell was inundated with calls from charitable plasterers after his plea for help was placed in the Gazette on 25 August.
“During the day (Wednesday) we had six calls, which was excellent,” he said.
“The first call was at 9am and I met the guy, Nick Bishop of Elite Plastering, at 11.30am. His wife saw the article and told him to ring.”
Mr Mitchell said the trend continued, with many plasterers offering to help after their wives urged them to call.
“We are so pleased,” he said. “They work very quickly.
“Mike, the contractor, does the stopping and the whole thing is ready for the cornice, and then we can have the cornice people in next week.”
Mr Mitchell said 4Cs was tentatively hoping for a mid-October opening date.
