THE future is a tantalising prospect for Berwick’s Malavika Kattali, having gained selection in the Hockey Victoria under-18 squad.
She might be a train-on for the squad and not in the initial numbers to play the tournament, but for the 15-year-old player it’s a good step forward to be that young yet making the best under-age hockey team in the state.
“Doesn’t feel too real,” Kattali said.
“I didn’t think I was going to get in that far.
“Just because the other girls are older and better players than me.
“It’s really exciting to do it.”
Kattali plays for the Greater Dandenong Warriors Hockey Club in its senior women’s team and plays her junior hockey at Waverley Hockey Club.
The fast-paced winger thinks the Victorian side has what it takes to go all the way, but just wants her team mates to perform to their peak.
“I think they’ll go pretty well and we’ll work hard and play to our best,” Kattali said.
“Just to get as far as we can as a team.”
With nearly a decade of hockey experience on her playing resume, Kattali has honed her craft with Dandenong and Waverley Hockey Clubs and juggles her senior and junior commitments at the respective clubs.
“Started in Dandenong then moved to Waverley – just wanted to play seniors here and my brother is at school and its closer by,” Kattali said.
Kattali wanted to thank her family for their support.
“I’d like to thank my parents for driving me everywhere and all their support and love,” Kattali said.
