Players in test of nerves

BERWICK Bridge Club enjoyed a series of competitive rounds last week.
On Friday 27 February, 11 tables played. First for N/S was Patricia Beazley and George Shand 61.80 per cent, followed by David Yoffa and Shirley Collins with 57.17 per cent, and Kath Wenczel and Pat Schelling 55.09 per cent. First for E/W was Tony Kimber and Michelle Leach with 62.03 per cent, followed by Mario Prochelle and Lalli Prochelle with 57.17 per cent, and Ellwyn Miskin and Bev Hastle with 53.70 per cent.
On Monday 2 March, six tables played. David Yoffa and Shirley Collins came first with 64.25 per cent, followed by Matthew Tiplady and Fran Kerlin with 60.375 per cent, and Michael Mandeltort and George Ashby with 57.69 per cent.
On Tuesday 3 March, six tables played. George Shand and Betty Nottage with 69.99 per cent, followed by Dorothy Scanlan and Bruce Greenland with 64.07 per cent, and Michael Mandeltort and Robert Morley with 61.85 per cent.
On Wednesday 4 March, nine tables played. First for N/S was Maggie Callander and Shirley Collins with 67.36 per cent, followed by Paul Pick and Barbara Pick with 56.25 per cent, and Dorothy Scanlan and Bruce Greenland with 54.16 per cent. First for E/W was Henryka Ballingall and John Jongen with 63.65 per cent, followed by Jim Dow and Jan Smith with 53.24 per cent, and Ruth Warren and Bert Romeijn with 53.24 per cent.
