A CENTRE dedicated to helping those in crisis found itself in a comparable state when health inspectors came knocking on the door.
But the inspectors gave Pakenham’s 4C’s crisis centre the all clear after a food safety inspection on Thursday 14 April.
The Cardinia Shire Council inspection came after reports that foods being distributed to needy people in the community were contaminated with maggots.
Council’s Team Leader for Environmental and Health Glenn Howard confirmed the report made by the unnamed resident when confirming that no food safety laws had been broken in the centre’s food storage area.
“Council officers attended 4C’s to inspect and discuss the organisation’s food storage procedures and to provide some guidance,” he said.
“The officer was comfortable with their procedures and no further action has been taken.”
4C’s general manager Cheryl Daly said she thought a disgruntled associate had made the report.
“They are quite disgruntled and is saying things that are not as they are,” Ms Daly said.
“Council verified that they are perfectly happy and thought we do a great job.”
4C’s offers free help to Cardinia shire’s most disadvantaged people, including those who are homeless or sleeping rough.
Services include food, accommodation and support for paying bills in addition to other services to help victims of domestic abuse.
