Hundreds gathered for the Garfield Christmas Street Festival to enjoy a night of live music, street markets and a fireworks display.

The event took place on the town’s main street on Friday 15 December from 5pm until late and was hailed a success by attendees.

“On behalf of the Christmas Festival, we would like to thank all the volunteers who assisted in the lead up to the event, during the event, all the shop owners and stall holders, singers, displays and performances,” the organisers posted on Facebook.

“We truly live in a beautiful town and are so proud of this community.”

Many businesses extended their trading hours while stall holders set up shop along the street.

The fireworks display could be enjoyed from the Garfield Football Oval.

“The festival was a fantastic event and the community spirit was well and truly alive,” one resident wrote online.

“I enjoyed a safe environment for my children to have some freedom with their friends; they spent most of their money on ice cream and the jumping castle! We all enjoyed the fireworks; it was a fantastic way to end the evening.”

Gazette photographer Stewart Chambers was there to capture all the action.
