Police to blitz

HOONING and drink driving are just a few of the crimes that police will be cracking down on when Operation Bollywood is launched throughout the Cardinia district during the month of May.
Pakenham, Beaconsfield and Emerald will be targeted first with extra police units on the road to ensure all motorists are obeying the law.
Sergeant Chris Marlow said May was typically a busy period on the roads with the onset of winter causing difficult driving conditions.
He said motorists needed to ensure that their vehicles were in a roadworthy condition and that driving habits were adjusted according to the change in weather.
“We will be setting up road blocks in different areas through the district and police will be doing roadworthy checks focusing on vehicle lights, windscreens and tyre condition,” he said.
Police will also target drink drivers, with a particular focus on routes to and from sports clubs after weekend matches.
“We know of certain back streets that drink drivers use to evade booze buses so we will be patrolling those areas whilst the booze bus is in operation,” he said.
