A bumper field of 135 players contested May’s Monthly Medal at Drouin Golf and Country Club on Saturday with Glenn Vanderlight the star of the day.

Vanderlight collected the Monthly Medal and won A Grade as well, shooting an incredible 78 off the stick to finish with nett 68 to claim both competitions by one shot.

There was a three-player countback for the remaining places in A Grade with Glenn Rees taking out the runners up award ahead of Mick Lithgow in third…both players finished with nett 69.

In B Grade it was Dermott Berkhout who claimed the honours with a nett 69, one shot ahead off runner up Scott Green with nett 70.

Third place came down to a countback, with Paul Timewell ending up on the podium with a nett 71.

C Grade was a tight contest with the top three players all scoring nett 73.

Jim Bransgrove won for the second time this week, finishing ahead of runner up Reg Dixon and third place Mathew Elliot.

Cody Andrews was the winner of D Grade shooting a nett 73 while Mike Duddy came in runners up with nett 74.

Third place went to Jock Granger who had nett 75 on a countback.

In E Grade, Peter Steer was the winner with nett 70, Bruce Tucker was runners up on nett 71 and Cameron Payne was third with nett 73.

Karen Adams took out the Super Six prize scoring 18 points.

Down the lines went to Alex Slaughter 69, Anthony Lillis 70, Tristan Ashby 71, Shane Dwyer and Brett Peters, 72, Fred Roknic, Kelly Belcher and Zach Bambridge 73, Phil Adams, Darren Wolfenbuttel, Danny Gorman and Ron Tomasetti 74, and Corey Thomson, Les Jones, Ben Jeffrey, Rohan Berkhout, Dave Axford and Geoff Lyall all with nett 75.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Mark Stewart (Sharkey’s Barbershop), 8th Fred Roknic, 10th Mick Lithgow (Pro Pin) and 14th Paul Matthews (Commercial Hotel).

A midweek stableford competition was held on Wednesday last week with 84 players competing.

A Grade winner and the best score for the day went to Gerard Commadeur with 39 points, while Pete Downward was the runner up scoring 38 points.

In B Grade, Jim Bransgrove led with 37 points, while Warren Cook was runner up via a three-way countback with 34 points.

John Gidley claimed C Grade with 38 points and won the Super Six with 16 points as well.

Vince Cappola was runner up on a count back with 36 points.

Down the lines went to Rob Ballingall and William Nutton 36, Rhys Matchett, Bill Toogood and Rod Gardner 34, John Banfield, Mark Klaver and John Roach 33, and to Robert Ramage and Charlie Hardy with 32 points.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Paul Barratt, 8th Duart Perrin, 10th Tim Lawrence and 14th Rob McCrae.

Sunday’s Medley Stableford competition was won by Mathew Elliot with 40 points, while Michael Walker won a ball down the line with 39 points.

Upcoming competitions are Stableford both midweek and Sunday; Saturday’s competition is Foursomes.

PENNANT

The Golf West Gippsland Pennant Finals were played on Sunday at Garfield Golf Club with Drouin represented in both Scratch and Handicap 2 divisions.

Unfortunately, the results didn’t fall our way with the Scratch team going down to Warragul and the Handicap 2 team losing to the home side at Garfield.

Thanks to all players who represented the club this year in Pennant and congratulations to the winning clubs.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin Ladies competed for the April Monthly Medal on Tuesday 30 April.

The winner of the daily Stroke event was Angela Greenall (39) with 77 nett on a countback from runner up Sharon Rippon (15).

With tied scores for the April Medal, the winner will be decided after this week’s Medal event.

Down the line balls went to Leanne Pollard 80 nett, Lorna Hoskins 82 and Anne Neilsen 82.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Leanne Pollard, 8th (2nd Shot) Marg Rowe, 10th Angela Greenall and no-one made it on the 14th.

Best Scratch score was Leanne Pollard with 90 off the stick.

Saturday May 4 was Stroke for the Ladies and the Quarterly Medal event.

The winner was Margaret Payne (40) with 68 nett and runner up was Karen Adams (29) with 70 nett.

Monday Pennant Round 6 was played at Traralgon on April 29.

Drouin had a narrow 2-3 loss to home side Traralgon.

The final round was Monday 6 May at Churchill Monash and congratulations to all players involved.

The 2024 Foursomes Championships are being held on May 14.

May 21 will be back to an Individual Stableford event, followed by the Anthony Bambridge 4BBB on May 28.
