Medalists vie for honours

THE Pakenham Golf Club 2009 Medal of Medalists final was played in conjunction with the February monthly medal. The winner of the Medal of Medalists was Brian Bateup with a score of 68 nett.
Michael Hildebrand had a great day by obtaining a ‘hole-in-one’ on the fifth hole.
Our president Rob Nobelius was the February monthly medal winner with a score of 66 nett.
The C Grade was won by Patrick Farrell with 69 nett and A Grade went to Troy Whittaker with 69 nett.

Jason McQualter gained an extra ball by having a birdie on the fifth hole.
Nearest-the-pins: Michael Davey 2nd, Michael Hildebrand 5th (hole-in-one), Ray Barnes 8th, Brent Greenwood pro-pin 14th, Jon Game 16th.
The second shot on the 6th hole winner was Matt Ahern, with the 2nd shot on the 11th going to Ross MacLean, and the 17th to Vince Del Nigro.
The longest drives were from Dion Morgan (A Grade), Rob Nobelius (B Grade) and Michael Addorosio (C Grade).
The super competition winners were Rob Nobelius, Mark Woodbridge and Bernie Carroll.
Next week is stableford and this includes pennant practice.

Arrangements are well in advance for the 10th annual pro-am on Friday 19 February. AM entries are available at a cost of $35 per club member or $45 for others.

Monday saw 45 players compete in the par competition. Alex Green came in with +5 to win on a countback from Michael Taylor.
Down-the-line balls: Arthur Ellis +4, Brain Doherty +3, Eric Butcher +3, Peter Eaton +3, Heath Barclay +2, Ray Milnes +2, followed by a group with +1 in Angie Peluso, Brian Degering, Warwick Cakebread and George Coffey.
The nearest-the-pin on the second was won by Ron Seamer, with Alex Green taking out the 8th hole and Bob Dowse the 14th.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY

The Wednesday morning stableford round was won by Alan Halleur with 41 points. Robert Morrison and Phil Barling came in with 39 to be the runners-up.

The nearest-the-pin on the 8th hole was won by Grant McKay from Garfield with Rod Cameron taking out the 14th hole and the 16th going to Jim Gilluley.

Twilight competition had 77 players taking part, with Michael Taylor coming in with 22 points to win the competition. The runner-up was Adam Carland and the down-the-line balls went to Ron Slabak 20, Bob Dowse 20, Ray Barnes 19, Rod Cameron 19, Greg Roberts 19, Murray O’Dwyer 19, Kevin Salau 19, Mal McKenna 20 and Kerri McKenna 20.
The nearest-the-pin on the 2nd went to Grant McKay with the second shot on the 7th went to Clint Walker. The social winner was Chad Shooter and the raffle winner was Stan Gilbert.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SUNDAY

The winner of the Sunday competition was Luke March with 40 points on a countback from Anton Kokke. Down-the-line balls: Peter Van Helmond 38, Ian Fletcher 37 and Simon Fay 37.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:LADIES

The ladies 9-hole Summer Cup has commenced and will be played every Thursday in February with the commencement time being 8am.
The winner of the front nine was Dawn Van Roy with 32 and 1/2 with the putting going to Sue King. Down-the-lines on the front nine were won by Marg Turner, Kerri McKenna, Maria Warburton and Faye Leighton.
The back nine was won by Bev Kerslake with 34 and the putting was won by Nola Kerslake. The back nine down-the-line ball winners were Irene Walker, Jean Hoare, Helen Aurish and Faye Smith.
The raffle winners were Wendy Carter, Rena Bueler and Merle Beasley.
Beginners Day is on 4 March, so ladies if you have a friend or acquaintance who would like to try the game of golf out, please ask them to come along and get some tuition and have a fun day.
