Cowardly attack on senior

By Jade Lawton
A ‘COWARDLY’ would-be thief put an 82-year-old man through a terrifying ordeal in Bunyip on Saturday.
The victim, from Kooweerup, was driving his Nissan Pulsar sedan near Hilltop Avenue when an unknown male jumped in the back seat at 11.30am.
Detective Sergeant Phil Jury, of Pakenham’s Criminal Investigation Unit, said the thief sat behind the victim and demanded cash.
The man only had coins so he drove towards the Bunyip township to withdraw cash from an ATM.
On the way to get the cash the thief grabbed the man’s head and smashed it against the driver’s side window.
When the car reached the corner of Main and High streets the thief opened the door and fled – possibly because of the number of people in the area.
The victim drove forward and was then involved in a crash further down the road. The crash has been attributed to shock.
He was taken to Warragul Hospital and treated for bruising and “general soreness”.
Police have little description of the offender, as threats were made to the victim not to turn around while he was in the car. However, it is thought he may have a beard.
Anyone who may have seen the man in the Hilltop Avenue or Main Street areas is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Pakenham police on 5945 2500.
