Yabbies sink in run race

PAKENHAM Upper –Toomuc (PUT) failed in its chase of Catani’s 191, capitulating for just 122 in Premier Division’s round 13, week two on Saturday.
The Yabbies lost a wicket in the third over of the day and from there went downhill.
The highest partnership was 34, but by then, eight wickets had fallen and victory was out of sight.
Opener Darren Warne (29) top-scored, followed by Adam Cooper with 28. The Blues got home easily.

Defending 171 at Kooweerup, the Yabbies had early success.
Frank Scaturchio (2/50) claimed the first two wickets for 29 runs, but a fine unbeaten middle-order stand of 76 runs saw the Demons take the points. Ben Clough (2/21 off seven) bowled well.

Chasing Catani’s 158, PUT had a good start. Chris Sharpe (24), Brent Fergusson (65) and Josh Noonan (36) pushed the score to 6/157.
Captain Ben Jarred (61) and Nick Kyval (35) secured the points for the Yabbies who finished 9/265 at the close.

Chasing Devon Meadows’ 177 target, PUT’s run chase never got going, the Yabbies bowled out for just 69.
The Panthers strived for outright victory and had PUT 7/86, but Ron Milnes saved the day with an unbeaten 22.

Cardinia visited Pakenham Secondary College and batted first.
A wicket in the second over gave PUT some hope, but the next wicket fell at 117.
Big hitting by the tail boosted the Bulls’ total to 260cc.
Junior Chris Brook snared 2/38 and Patrick Lenny took 2/42.
In reply, the Yabbies had an equally good start, progressing to 1/103 after 10 overs. Jeff Dunderdale (25), Lenny (21) and Travis Decker (26) bolstered the middle order, but the tail didn’t wag and PUT was all out for 219.

Last week the Yabbies played the strong Mornington 1, whose opener made a century helping her side to 4/232 after the 40 overs.
In reply, PUT began well.
Rayleen Cooper (101 not-out) anchored the innings, but only Natalie Crosby (23 not-out) hung around at the other end in a 63 partnership as the Yabbies total ended at 6/196 at the close.
