Nyora at last turn killers on the field

AFTER a rain-interrupted day last week, it was ruled that Nyora’s innings was to be closed at 9/282 off 65 overs. Kilcunda/Bass started off badly in their big run chase, losing its first wicket in the fifth over, caught at gully by Toogood off Fairbank.
Toogood bowled the other opener three overs later, Fairbank struck the next over by trapping Kilcunda/Bass’s captain in front and the Panthers were in some trouble at 3/20 off nine overs.
Things went from bad to worse as Nyora found the killer instinct that had been missing for the second half of the year. Toogood found an edge and Hackett obliged behind the stumps.
But anything Toogood did Fairbank wanted to do better and he claimed two wickets in two balls, to be on a hat-trick but he couldn’t find that elusive third.
Tagliaferro was brought and had an immediate impact with a wrong’un trapping the batsman lbw and the Panthers slumped to 7/48.
Mark Pearse was thrown the ball and when he dropped in a short one the batsman skied it for Morrison to take it safely.
Tagliaferro then claimed the final wicket of the season, drawing the edge to first slip, with Mark Pearse gobbling up the chance for glory. Kilcunda/Bass all out for 71.
Fairbank finished with 4/30 off 12, Toogood and Tagliaferro finished with 2/15, 2/19 and, winding back the clock, Mark Pearse claimed 1/3 off three.

Nyora had a big task ahead, needing to chase down 185. After Gav Hackett retired overnight, Batrouny lasted only five overs before he was caught for two. Knight (35) and Jensen (55) put their heads together to put on 88 runs. But they both fell in quick succession and when McPherson fell, Nyora had gone from 2/104 to 5/120.
Billy Hessels came in and looked to steer the team home but he was caught for 28 and the tail showed no fight, crumbling to be all out for 162.
