Sharp and shiny

Being the Maid of Honour for my |
sister Holly’s wedding proved to be |
a stressful event for me.
Since having kids I’ve realised that I
definitely don’t handle being under pressure
very well.
There were so many things to organise, my
calendar was filling up fast and I soon
realised that the day was going to be very
hectic, organising myself, my two kids, Holly
and her two kids.
Because our kids are two girls, the girly jobs
– like getting them dressed nice and doing
their hair – are usually up to me.
There was one morning a while ago where
Adam had to get Ashley ready for kinder
when I wasn’t there. A friend of ours was
there at the time and said he was literally in
hysterics watching Adam trying to put
Ashley’s hair in a ponytail.
The weeks leading up to the wedding
consisted of hair trials, make-up trials, dress
fittings (I had to lose weight to fit into in the
dress by the wedding) and the hen’s party.
I soon realised that I wasn’t going to be able
to get my girls ready on the day, there just
wasn’t enough time. Adam was going to
have to do it. I prepared a list. Adam wasn’t
really impressed with this.
“I’m a big boy, I don’t need a list” he says.
“I know, but I just don’t want you to forget
anything,” I say nicely, handing it to him.
I stayed at my sister’s the night before, so it
was all up to Adam.
He had to make sure they had heaps to eat
before getting them dressed. I had made
two bags so he wouldn’t get the clothes
mixed up, one for Ashley, one for Kiera. No
food once dressed. I made a lunch box for
them with snacks to tide them over that
wouldn’t mess up their clothes.
He had to get them to the hairdresser by
11am to get their hair braided and then to
the church by noon, and he assured me he
knew exactly where it was.
I had one phone call from him on the day
because he couldn’t remember where I put
their bags of clothes. “You didn’t tell me
that,” he says. I’m sure I did.
As I was walking down the aisle with Tyler
the flower girl, I spotted Ashley and Kiera
looking gorgeous. They waved furiously, very
excited to be at Auntie Holly’s wedding. Of
course I’m biased but they did look adorable
and Adam scrubs up alright as well.
After the ceremony Adam took off his coat
and something fell out of his pocket. I
picked it up and it was my list. I was so
proud that he had it in his pocket I just had
to tell him.
During the reception I had to laugh, I
realised Ashley’s dress was on backwards.
When we got home I noticed a message on
my mobile which was from him, at 12.10pm,
saying: “Where is this church, I’ve driven
around all over the place and can’t find it”.
Lucky the bride is always late.
