Unwanted, but wanted

By Casey Neill
UNWANTED mobile phones can do wonders for the environment.
The MobileMuster and Landcare Australia Old Phones, More Trees campaign is on until World Environment Day, 5 June.
For every kilogram of mobile phones sent in for recycling during the project, a tree will be planted at one of four locations across Australia.
Victorian donations will help protect the iconic river red gum and endangered superb parrot in one of Australia’s most unique wetland areas, on the Murray River.
MobileMuster is a not-for-profit program funded solely by mobile phone manufacturers and network carriers to collect and recycle mobile phones.
Mobile phones are not biodegradable but are 90 per cent recyclable.
Readers can drop their unwanted mobile phone at a participating mobile phone retailer or collection point, which are listed on www.mobilemuster.com.au or available by calling 1300 730 070.
They can also post them by picking up a free MobileMuster recycling satchel from Australia Post or by printing off a reply paid mailing label online.
