Harry’s 90 reasons to party

NAR Nar Goon North icon Harry James celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday (Tuesday).
The birthday celebrations started on Saturday, when the James family visited Harry’s wife, Betty, at Pakenham’s Ron Andrews Aged Care.
On Sunday, about 80 of Harry’s family, friends, former co-workers and apprentices gathered at the Nar Nar Goon North hall for a party.
Mr James, who has lived in the same Nar Nar Goon North home for 43 years, is quite familiar with the hall – he was secretary of its committee for about 35 years.
He is also a former president on the Nar Nar Goon RSL, a former member of the Nar Nar Goon North progress association and was secretary of the 39th board of the RSL.
A builder by trade, he built the first Mr Yakkerboo with wife Betty and Norm Lemin.
He was also a member of the original Yakkerboo committee.
In his spare time he enjoys fishing, and is heading to the Murray River soon with the goal of catching a cod and a carp.
Harry and Betty have seven children, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
