UPPER Beaconsfield teenager Jack Le Brocq continued his rapid rise through the motorsport ranks with three top-10 finishes in round four of the Australian Formula Ford Championships in Darwin over the weekend.
Le Brocq finished eighth, ninth and 10th in the three-race format at the Hidden Valley circuit to secure some valuable points in just his fourth event at Formula Ford level.
The 17-year-old up-and-comer is part of the CAMS Rising Stars team, which gives young drivers an opportunity to pit their skills against more experienced competitors in a bid to fast-track their development.
Le Brocq was the stand-out performer for his four-driver team, recovering from a hairy incident in the third race – when his nose cone was dislodged in a near-miss – to cap a great weekend.
Fortunately, the nose cone, which was re-stickered for the race to promote Red Nose Day this Friday, was not damaged.
“It was certainly hectic out there,” Le Brocq said.
“We had to take some evasive action to miss other people’s incidents and our nose cone got knocked askew.
“It was loose for a while and I thought we might have been black-flagged, but thankfully it worked itself back into place and we were able to keep racing. In the end it provided excellent exposure for the SIDS and Kids Red Nose Day coming up this week.”
CAMS Rising Stars team principal Bruin Beasley said he was delighted with Le Brocq’s mature performance.
“Jack has really done a tremendous job here at Hidden Valley,” Beasley said.
“For someone who has had so little experience in these cars, and who had never been to the circuit before, it was great for him to score a lot of points.”
The Formula Ford Championships will head to Townsville for the next round on 9-11 July.
