THREE of Cardinia Shire’s brightest horticulture and agriculture students were honoured last week with a P.B. Ronald Memorial Trust Award.
Agricultural science student Zeb Quigley, 20, from Gembrook, agriculture student Ciara Cullen, 21, from Kooweerup and horticulture student from Pakenham Nick Fitt, 20, were proud to accept their awards at a presentation dinner.
“This certainly helps with my university fees and, because I live on campus, it helps me to be independent,” Zeb said. Ciara sincerely thanked everyone involved.
“I feel very privileged. Let’s hope the trust continues well into the future,” she said.
Past recipients also attended, including the guest speaker, Anthony Delaney of Rodwells.
Anthony spoke about how the award helped him to pursue his profession as a livestock auctioneer and his upcoming trip to Canada to represent Australia at the Calgary Stampede International Auctioneers Competition.
He even gave the audience a taste of his world-class auctioneering skills and auctioned off a wine bottle.
The dinner was hosted by Pakenham Rotary Club, an ongoing supporter of the trust, along with Cardinia Shire, the Pakenham Racing Club and The Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
The P.B. Ronald Memorial Trust was established in 1991 to honour the memory of respected farmer and prominent community man, Peter Bruce Ronald.
Today, it continues to assist local people in furthering their education in agriculture, horticulture and local government.
