Steers stand firm

THE fat cattle sale on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, contained a good representation of lighter store steers and heifers, which sold to strong demand and made in the 230 cent range.
Processor quality made to 226.2 cents on the day. Demand for bullocks remained strong while heifers lifted slightly and steers also stood firm.
Eighty nine bullocks made from 155 cents to 190.6 cents to average 181.4 cents.
Seventy five heifers made an average of 164.5 cents, two cents better and ranged from 106.6 cents to 185 cents.
One hundred and fifty eight steers ranged from 145 cents to 191.2 cents to be steady at 177 cents average.
Three hundred and sixty eight veal penned with heavy ranging from 126.2 cents to 238.2 cents and light 124.6 cents to 233.2 cents.
Quality was easier this week in the vealers and the average backed off 10 cents to 183.9 cents.
Thirty three bulls on Thursday were yarded with several light young head offered.
Prices for the lighter ones was easier, while heavy bulls remained firm. The overall average was back six cents to 150.7 cents but could be regarded as firm on the last sale.
Five hundred and forty nine cows sold to easier demand with the better beef cows making up to 166 cents.
Cows were easier at 133.3 cents averaging eight cents easier.
