Goon’s phone credit

A DEAL between the Cardinia Shire Council and Telstra will see the Nar Nar Goon Reserve Committee receive $100,000 over the next 10 years.
As part of Telstra’s requirement to improve mobile phone coverage in the Nar Nar Goon area, the telecommunication company proposed to install a 20-metre light pole tower at the Recreation Reserve.
The council already has a similar deal with Telstra that saw a tower installed at the Officer Recreation Reserve.
Bunyip Ward councillor Bill Pearson said the proposal to install the phone tower was “really good”.
“It’s a positive that the pole is unobtrusive and can look like part of the council’s oval lighting,” Cr Pearson said.
“And our shire puts the money back into the Rec Reserve committee which means they benefit from the deal as well as local residents benefiting from better phone coverage.”
Installation works at the Nar Nar Goon reserve are expected to begin before the end of 2010.
Cr Pearson said it was a deal that he would welcome at all sports grounds in the area.
