Secondhand robes

A BERWICK woman is using her passion for recycling and the environment to start up what she says is Berwick’s “first recycled clothing market.”
Sue Verhey is hoping the community will jump on board and support the new recycled clothing market this Sunday.
The market will be held on the third Sunday of each month at the Berwick Leisure Centre.
Ms Verhey has always had an interest in secondhand clothing.
“I used to make my own clothes,” she said.
“I like different and unique garments, items that aren’t always in fashion.”
Ms Verhey believed there was a need for a market in the City of Casey which sold wearable secondhand clothing for children and adults.
“These days people are watching their dollars and wanting to recycle. I think this market is a good way to help the public,” she said.
“I want things to be reasonably priced so shoppers can come with $50 and leave with a big full of clothes.”
The 47-year-old, who has lived in Berwick for 25 years, said the market would be similar to the popular Camberwell market.
She is on the hunt for stallholders and shoppers.
“Come along and update your wardrobe, offload some unwanted wearable clothing or buy some recycled craft and homewards. The more the merrier,” she said.
Cost to hire a stall is $40. Entry to the market is free.
Food stalls and a coffee van will also be set up on the day.
The Berwick Recycled Clothing Market runs from 9am to 2pm on 15 August, 19 September, 17 October, 21 November and 19 December.
