Strong demand peaks

THERE was a similar size yarding at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last Wednesday as there was the previous week and prices were hard to follow.
Good bullocks sold to very strong demand making to 185 cents but ended the day three cents easier on average.
Heifers performed similarly, although very light heifers held the average back three cents and heifers made to a top of 194 cents, and averaged 161.6 cents.
Steers sold well and were firm on last sales price averaging 178.3 cents, better steers made to 185 cents last week.
Vealers rose two cents to 197.9 cents to top at 231.6 cents for the heavier section of the class.
Almost 100 sub 250 kilogram store calves sold to strong competition attracting restockers and averaged 226.7 cents per kilogram.
Twenty nine bulls on Thursday eased four cents on average to 144.2 cents, the heavier condition, however, lifted the average price per head by $200 to $1124.
Three hundred and fifteen cows continued their run of the past few sales to remain steady, averaging 135.7 with prices ranging from 89.6 cents to 166.2 cents.
