PAKENHAM South’s Anthony Delaney has talked his way to the top.
The auctioneer, representing Australia in the renowned International Livestock Auctioneer Championships last month, was crowned 12th – the highest place ever achieved by an Australian.
Mr Delaney, an auctioneer with Rodwell’s in Pakenham, was sent to Canada after winning the national finals at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
The event was part of the Calgary Stampede, which is billed as ‘the greatest outdoor show on earth.’
Mr Delaney was judged on his rhythm, clarity, voice, appearance, mannerisms and timing – as well as livestock knowledge and his ability to spot bids.
“We had to sell seven pens of cattle and on the second day, strips loins,” Mr Delaney said.
“A fella from America won.
“It was a great honour to be there, a great experience.”
Canadian reports said Mr Delaney ‘stole the show’ on the day, earning a standing ovation after his performance.
