Soccer strikes a goal

BUNYIP and District Soccer Club (BDSC) will get a $50,000 funding boost if the Coalition secures office on 27 November.
Bass MP Ken Smith said a small band of volunteers had worked extremely hard to establish the first soccer club in Cardinia Shire and deserved to be rewarded for their efforts.
“I first heard of The Strikers when I was bailed up by club president Tony Arrigo at one of my neighbourhood chats. Establishing a soccer club in the shire was a long-time dream of Tony’s and together with a small band of like-minded enthusiasts, they are gradually turning a previously overgrown plot of land into the new home of the BDSC,” Mr Smith said.
“In its first playing season this year, the club has had no problem in recruiting junior and senior players from around the district with six junior and one senior team. The Strikers is a non-discriminatory club and players of any sex and all abilities are welcome to take part. But the facilities at the ground are far from adequate. They are desperate for changing rooms, a canteen, fencing and lights. This money will go some way to helping with that.”
Mr Arrigo said he was extremely grateful for the commitment.
“It’s all baby steps. This will help us get things done,” he said.
