KOOWEERUP Secondary College and the Kooweerup RSL sub-branch held the fifth annual Remembrance Day assembly last week.
Local RSL members took pride of place on stage as Kooweerup Secondary College assistant principal Peter Bottomley spoke to students from Year 8, 9 and 10.
“It is a positive way for students to gain insight into the importance of Remembrance Day,” Mr Bottomley said.
The secondary college and the Kooweerup RSL have a strong relationship and RSL members award two scholarships to students each year at the assembly, Mr Bottomley said.
Three Year 7 students were presented with the Cec Donnelly and Kooweerup RSL Encouragement Award which included attendance at the Melbourne Youth Music Summer School.
Jack Abrehart, Daniel Evans and Caitlyn Van Dord will attend the summer program in January next year at the Melbourne Town Hall.
Year 12 student Arthur Churchill, was the recipient of the Kooweerup RSL Encouragement Award, which included $200 to put towards future endeavours, however was unable to attend the assembly.
