THE future looks bright for Beaconsfield’s Brandon White – anchoring down the defensive end in Victoria Country’s successful Under-16 National Championships success in Sydney last week.
The 188-centimetre key position backman, who attends Berwick Grammar School, locked down his spot in the championship winning team and put his hand up for future success in the TAC Cup and onwards.
White was thrilled to get his chance to play interstate for the first time and hopes to get a few more chances with Vic Country in years to come.
“It was pretty big as I have never played interstate before – good to get used to it,” White said.
“Great experience – there was a lot to take in.”
Vic Country defeated South Australia 9.8 (62) to 8.12 (60) on the final day, to claim the championship, finishing ahead of South Australia, which also had a 2-1 record, Western Australia and Victoria Metro in the Division 1 table.
Knocking off Victoria’s classic interstate rival – South Australia – in the championship decider was a great thrill for White, knowing as well that Country went into the match as the outside chance.
“They were undefeated the whole carnival, so we were the underdogs and to beat them by two points was amazing,” White said.
“It’s a great feeling (to win the championships) – there are no words to describe it.”
Beaconsfield JFC will regain their star defender for the rest of the South East Juniors season and White’s goals from there include getting into the under-18 Dandenong Stingrays set up and taking his chances going forward from there.
“Just to get the best out of it – and see where it goes from there,” White said.
White wanted to thank his parents, Beaconsfield JFC, the Dandenong Stingrays and under-16 Stingrays head coach Scott Slater.
