Second death

HOMICIDE Squad detectives are now investigating the suspicious deaths of two women in Pakenham in the space of three months but police believe they are not linked.
A spokesperson for Victoria Police media confirmed that investigators were called to a home in Ahern Road in Pakenham last Wednesday at 10am to find the body of a 20-year-old woman.
The suspicious death was confirmed on Friday as investigations began into the cause of her death.
Later that day, a statement was released to confirm that police do not believe the young woman’s death is linked to the murder of Pakenham mum Kylie Blackwood.
Ms Blackwood was murdered in her McCaffery Rise home on 1 August.
Following the mum-of-three’s death, hundreds of calls were made to Crime Stoppers in a bid to catch her killer as the community rallied behind the Blackwood family.
A walk to ‘Reclaim Pakenham Against Violence’ was organised in the wake of Ms Blackwood’s murder as an opportunity for the community to take a stand against crime.
By Tuesday, no new details had emerged of the latest death.
A Victoria Police spokesperson told the Gazette the investigation was still being handled by the Homicide Squad.
“Police don’t have any determination as to the cause of death,” the spokesperson said.
“The Homicide Squad is continuing their investigations.”
It comes after 70 community leaders pledged their support for the Challenge Family Violence Project as White Ribbon ambassadors.
The project is a partnership between the City of Casey, Cardinia Shire and City of Greater Dandenong, to bring together community leaders from each municipality to bring an end to family violence.
The campaign is being run in the lead up to White Ribbon Day on 25 November.
Anyone with any information on either of the deaths is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
