Show goes back home to mother

How I Met Your Mother
Channel 7, Thursdays, 8pm

I LOVE How I Met Your Mother but the final season is losing its appeal.
It has been advertised for months that we are all going to meet the mother – and we did in the first episode of the last season – but after five episodes, Ted (Josh Radnor) still hasn’t.
In the opening episode of season nine, the mother (Cristin Milioti) meets Lilly on a train and it shows the chemistry between the two is great and she would fit in well with the ’gang’.
But that is the closest any one has gotten to the mother.
Not to mention the much-anticipated wedding of Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is still hours away despite the opening episode showing the day before. We have seen family arriving, poker games and arguments over wedding gifts but not much else.
Fans have eagerly waited for nine seasons to meet the mother and this fan is getting very frustrated as it moves through the final season. The last thing fans want is for Ted to meet the mother in the final episode of the season – we have watched him date countless women but how will he date the mother?
Taking the largely unseen mother out of the equation for the moment, this season is not the How I Met Your Mother we have come to know and love. Five episodes in and we have not even seen Marshall (Jason Segel) in the same room as his lovely wife Lily (Alyson Hannigan), the fantastic banter between the five characters in their booth or even the bored faces of Ted’s children in 2030.
It seems the series has lost its spark.
Undoubtedly many will continue to watch, myself included, as the series comes to a close but if it continues on this path, most will be utterly disappointed if things don’t pick up.
