Smoke haze blows in

By BRIDGET SCOTT

A HUGE fire which started burning in Gippsland yesterday afternoon was the cause for thick smoke which developed across most of the Cardinia Shire last night.
Bunyip fire brigade captain John Cooper said reports of fires in the Bunyip State Forest were false alarms, and any smoke was a result of the blaze burning in Trafalgar.
District Officer Phil Craig said there were also reports of fires burning in Pakenham which turned out to be false alarms. He said smoke from Trafalgar affected Pakenham and Officer, and a thick haze could be seen from around 4.30pm.
Fire trucks from the Cardinia Shire attended the Gippsland blaze.
See next week’s Pakenham Gazette for more information.
