NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch is an important lifeline and resource in any community – and Pakenham police want help.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Prowd is calling on residents to get involved with the newly reinvigorated Cardinia Neighbourhood Watch.
He said police would like to see more people involved in the program to increase the size of the group.
“It is a really good initiative that provides us with intelligence and information,” he said.
Act Sen Sgt Prowd said police have limited resources and so Neighbourhood Watch groups were able to provide valuable information about what is going on in the community.
He said Neighbourhood Watch members often delivered pamphlets as well as acting as an important go-between with the police and the community.
“They do the job we desperately need done,” he said.
Act Sen Sgt Prowd said the aim was to prevent and stop crime.
He encouraged businesses to get involved as well to help with printing advertising and pamphlets.
Chairman of the group Phil Taylor said the Cardinia Neighbourhood Watch branch started in May and was aiming to work in the shire’s outlying towns.
He said the group needed more members to help with its efforts.
The committee consists of three people and he said while the police were very supportive, there was room for more help from people in the community who were interested in the cause.
Act Sen Sgt Prowd said it was important for people to know who to go to and what they can do if they witness any crime or have any concerns about something going on in their community.
