Cruising through life

WHEN Berwick couple Robyn and Roger Timms travelled to Europe recently, they wanted to make sure they saw it all.
They started their trip in Prague with a cruise and then headed to Nuremberg for an historic, moving insight into World War II.
“We chose to do the Nuremberg Trials – we saw the rally grounds and the courtroom where the trials for the war criminals took place,” she said.
“It was quite amazing.”
At night, they headed back to the ship for the cruise. The idea is to sail at night and stop into the quaint little towns and villages along the way.
“We finished up in Vienna and then we flew to Florence for three days,” Robyn said.
“And then we caught the train to Tuscany for 10 days.”
In the wall cities in Tuscany, cars are not allowed inside and tourists are asked to walk inside.
It’s hard for the pair to pick their favourite part or highlight of the trip, although they have always wanted to do a tour.
They had the help of Lauren Savery at The Departure Lounge in Berwick.
“We had always wanted to do a river cruise – it was quite unique,” Robyn said.
“My husband gets seasick, so we only did that for 10 days.
“Tuscany was incredible, Zurich was amazing and such a beautiful clean city.”
The cafe culture in Zurich was “unbelievable” and Robyn said she was continually amazed by the history in Europe.
When the Timms returned from their globetrotting they were ready to plan their next trip, but also in need of a rest.
“As my daughter said you don’t get the weekend off – you don’t want to miss anything,” she said.
“It was wonderful.”
Robyn is pushing for another cruise next year and said there were plenty of memorable moments that even a camera couldn’t have captured.
