Gulls out of luck

IT WAS a five-goal-to-one final term from Moe that snuffed out Warragul’s chances of securing its third win of the Gippsland League season at Western Park on Saturday.
The Gulls could manage just one goal for the first half but they kept the Lions to just five of their own and within reach at the main break.
A 26-point margin at the half was reduced to just 15 at the final change but the home side was unable to make the most of its momentum, eventually going down by 44 points – 11.11 (77) to 5.3 (33).
Chris Lee booted two goals and was his side’s best, while Jacob Orlicki (also 2 goals), Brad Scalzo, Ash Blackwood and Tom Fusinato also continued their promising form from over the past few rounds.
Nick Williams slotted three home for Moe, while Lucas Jenkinson and Peter Ainsworth shone in their side’s away win.
In the other local match of the round, Drouin’s horror run continued – trounced at home by reigning premier, Morwell.
The Hawks could only muster one behind for the game, while in contrast the Tigers had a staggering 38 scoring shots. The eventual 92-point margin – 11.27 (93) to 0.1 (1) could, and probably should, have been a lot more if not for Morwell’s staggeringly low conversion rate in front of goal in the tough conditions.
The Bailey boys – Boyd (3 goals), Adam and Brandon – were the three standouts for Harmit Singh’s visiting side, while David Olsen was gallant in another tough day at the office for Drouin.
Warragul currently sits ninth on the ladder – a game and percentage behind Moe – while Drouin is still winless from its 11 games so far.
