THE 2014 Rivers and Ranges Community Leadership Program (RRCLP) applications are now open for future hills leaders.
The RRCLP committee said Victoria has nine Community Leadership Programs that have been operating for more than 10 years contributing about $13 million per annum through volunteering activity in regional areas.
Organisers said collectively there is a graduate base of 2000 active leaders and the committee is dedicated to enabling the Yarra Ranges to experience the benefits of the program.
Created through the experience of the 2009 Victorian bushfires, the program works with community, organisations and business to build a connected leadership network across the Yarra Ranges.
RRCLP chairwoman Ros Affleck said community leaders have been under enormous pressure over the past five years.
“They are exhausted and are in need of support and reinforcement by other experienced leaders,” she said.
Ms Affleck believes that the program will develop leaders versed in common issues that over time will create a foundation to build thriving and resilient communities.
“Local issues including interface council pressures, population growth, environmental issues and increasing cultural diversity will require innovative leaders to drive change to meet these challenges into the future,” she said.
“What they all (program participants) will have in common is their commitment to making their communities vibrant, sustainable and resilient.”
RRCLP is a 10-month course commencing in August and gives participant the chance to meet a broad cross section of leaders with a range of experience and backgrounds.
Participants are able to explore opportunities in the region and consider different leadership styles with the opportunity to advance professionally in community leadership roles.
